Dave Grohl, frontman of the rock formation Foo Fighters and one day drummer for Nirvana, has seen a childhood dream come true with Probot. He invited all of his old metal heroes to record a song. He wrote and recorded most of the songs himself, after which he sent them to the singer in question, who then came up with a vocal line and recorded it further in his own studio. The names range from
… illustrious eighties heroes like Cronos from Venom and Denis Snake Belanger from Voivod, to more modern singers like Max Cavelera from Sepultura and Soulfly. The result is a CD that covers every corner of the metal universe, alternating with heavy doom metal to speed or trash metal. From Max Cavelera's heavy grunt in Red War to the more poppy song Dictatosaurus by Denis Snake Belanger. Dave Grohl has succeeded in giving the listener the idea that he is listening to a different band over and over again. For the seasoned fan a nice look back at thirty years of metal, for the novice a nice basis to explore the genre further. (JdD)more
