Bjørn Berge is not a dangerous hip hopper as the cover photo suggests, but a 'string machine on speed' from Norway. Berge knows like no other how to conjure up a raw slide-like sound from his guitar. The first association that comes to mind is the Dutch Dyzack, another guitar wonder who tries to push the boundaries of the possibilities of a guitar. In terms of vocals, Bjørn does sound a bit heavier,
… think of Creed or the singer of the Crash Test Dummies. This combination gives his music a strange touch, with the arrangements you expect a more folk-like vocal line and then Bjørn comes out like a pit bull. There are a number of adaptations on St. Slide, Frank Zappa and Tom Waits are reviewed and are not inferior to the original. Nevertheless, the Norwegian powerhouse also manages to stand out with his own songs. (JdD)more
