Few people can tell what it sounds like in space. Perhaps astronaut André Kuipers, but he listened to Vangelis in the space station ISS. The universe is probably very quiet and empty, because what can be heard in the infinite? In any case, this does not hinder the Norwegian ambient producer Geir Jenssen alias Biosphere. He made the CD Autour De La Lune at the request of Radio France for a composition
… for a festival and was inspired by Jule Verne's novel De La Terre à la Lune from 1865. In it a manned bullet is shot at the moon, but it remains as orbiting a satellite around moon. Jenssen was able to use the archives of Radio France for his assignment and found a radio version of the book from the 1960s. Jenssen combines excerpts from this with his own soundscapes to create '9 mouvements'. Autour De La Lune is extremely minimalist and bare, with slightly pulsating sounds that can really only be perceived with the headphones. (IV)more
