Shangri-La is (like El Dorado, for example) a non-existent and idealized country, located in the mountains of Tibet. The population would be immortal and live in complete harmony. The former singer and guitarist of the seems to have specialized as a solo artist in quietly rippling blues and roots music. Even with the greatest effort, you cannot call most of the songs on Shangri-La exciting or adventurous, there are hardly any striking songs. There is little wrong with the implementation, and it appears that Knopfler's ambitions do not extend further than the qualification 'rock solid'. (IV)more
