With a sound that ranged from r & b to rock and club music, Seal Henri Samuel, who hails from the British dance world, managed to conquer a place in the charts time and again from the early 1990s and subsequent years, starting with the Adamski -hit Killer. Best 1991-2004 does a good job by showing the broad talents with which Seal managed to score enormously: from ballads (Kiss From A Rose and
… Prayer For The Dying) to gritty soul (Waiting For You and Get It Together). The Londoner performs both his own and other people's work. His version of Echo & The Bunnymens Lips Like Sugar is crackling, with help from reggae master Mikey Dread, and his adaptation of the Bacharach / David classic Walk On By shines, thanks to the use of a fragile drum loop. Best 1991-2004 has been released in a version with a CD (with silver cover) and as a double CD (with gold cover). The latter version has a full acoustic album, with thirteen of Seal's best-known songs performed in an engagingly sparse manner.more
