Idlewild comes from Scotland, but you can't hear that. The band from Edinburgh that broke through to the general public with the third CD The Remote Part (2002) sounds more American, with REM as the main reference point. It is not without reason that singer Roddy Woomble moved to New York, where he feels more at home. After a few staff changes (the bass player left, an extra guitarist came) Idlewild
… was ready for the fourth album. Warnings / Promises shows that little remains of the group's former punk past. No more explosive guitars for Idlewild, but quietly constructed songs in which the noise has been replaced by a pedal steel. The album produced by Tony Hoffer (ao Beck) contains twelve songs, some of which stand out because they remind you so much of REM. Warnings / Promises is never a bad CD, but there are simply too few real highlights on it. (IV)more
