Reggaeton is a music style, originated in the Caribbean, which finally reached the Netherlands in the summer of 2005. It is a mix of dancehall reggae and hip hop, with Spanish as the main language. It has enjoyed enormous popularity for many years, especially among Latinos around the world. The genre is distinguished from hip-hop, for example, by its social involvement in the subjects sung about.
Also, no distinction is made between men or women when it comes to who is in charge of the musical arena. While the US Billboard Latin Chart was inundated with reggaeton releases, we had to make do in the Netherlands with one-hit flies like Papi Chulo from Lorna and Sientelo from Lumidee. The real stars of the genre are Don Omar, Tego Calderon and the lady Ivy Queen. Puerto Rican Daddy Yankee also belongs to the absolute top. Born Ramon Ayala in 1977, this reggaeton singer has already scored many hits in Latin America, of which Gasolina is the most important. Furthermore, the r & b tinted Like You and Lo Que Paso are hit sensitive. The CD Barrio Fino consists of a total of 21 tracks, very common for a reggaeton CD, and perhaps paves the way for a definitive breakthrough of the genre. (PF)more
