It's almost a disappointment to read that Little Things was recorded in a studio in Oslo. Earlier you imagine Hanne Hukkelberg - just the name - somewhere in a house in the Norwegian woods, where she records her songs barefoot and with the cat on her lap, while eating a homemade cookie and a cup of tea within reach. It is such music that can be heard on Little Things. Sweet, small, dreamy and
… atmospheric, with influences from folk, electronica and jazz. Hukkelberg's voice is reminiscent of other Scandinavian singers such as Stina Nordenstam and Emiliana Torrini, but also of CocoRosie's sisters. Hukkelberg's music is a bit freaky at times, with lots of crazy sounds that seem to come from the home, garden and kitchen atmosphere, such as rippling water, plastic bottles, wine glasses or bicycle spokes. She also manages to surprise with the instruments played by members of Jaga Jazzist, among others, sometimes a theremin appears, then a mandolin, tuba or clarinet. Little Things is an enchanting CD from start to finish. (IV)more
