Shortly after the release of an album (ironically called Don't Stop) and in the middle of a tour, the Dutch Daryll-Ann suddenly called it quits in May 2004. In the fifteen years of their existence, the group had managed to build a solid reputation in the club circuit with their alternative close harmony sixties pop. With the release of Here We Are by singer and main composer Jelle Paulusma, it was
… obvious that he would continue the legacy of Daryll-Ann. The fact that he does not do this immediately gives him credit. His voice and his compositions sound very recognizable, but he has dressed the whole (almost alone) with a pretty raw sauce and there is always a dirty distorted bass or another detonating sound in the ten songs. True Daryll-Ann fans will not be disappointed. But anyone who thought this band sounded too sweet and too much like The Beach Boys should definitely give Paulusma a chance. (MR)more
