This British group named itself after Bob Dylan's first album after his much-discussed Christian period in the 1970s (Infidels = the infidels) but is musically in the same vein as other bands influenced by the new wave of the 1980s. That means scratching guitars and motor-driven electro beats, a sound that the lover of alternative rock has been thrown to death for a while after the success of Franz
… Ferdinand. Within this lavish range, Infadels is certainly one of the nicer bands. Songs like Love Like Semtex and Jagger '67 are great danceable singles. Halfway through the album the atmosphere changes and there is a bit more experimentation with sounds and lower tempos. Then we suddenly hear something of the 'influences of Charlie Mingus, Steve Reich and Zongamin' that guitarist Matt claims to have. This willingness to look further means that the group ultimately has more to offer than just the 'flavor of the month'. (MS)more
