Loose Fur is the occasion project of two members of Wilco (singer / guitarist Jeff Tweedy and drummer Glenn Kotche) and Jim O'Rourke, the man who was responsible for the production of the Wilco records Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002) and A Ghost. Is Born (2004) on which quite a few experimental sounds could be heard. Compared to those records, Loose Fur on this album sounds remarkably earthy. The songs
… are (inevitably) reminiscent of Wilco and O'Rourke's solo work alternately, depending on who is responsible for the lead vocals. Above all, the music has an attractive spontaneity, enhanced by the no-nonsense way of recording. Loose Fur does not impose any restrictions on itself, simple songs are alternated with more complex works full of intricate breaks and changing time signatures. Born Again In The USA is not a coherent piece of work but shows the talent of these musicians well. (MS)more
