Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice won many hearts with his debut O (2003). The fragile, sober songs, often accompanied by no more than a guitar or cello, were often gloomy and dark in tone, dealing with personal topics. Rice initially released the CD independently, but it became a worldwide sales success through multiple re-releases, with two million copies sold (half of which in Great Britain.)
… A follow-up took a long time, the fans had to do it. with the 'snack' B-Sides. In November 2006, 9 will be released, and a more suitable time is hardly conceivable. As the leaves fall and dusk sets in earlier and earlier, Rice sings at 9 about heartache and anguish. Just like on O, there is support from singer Lisa Hannigan and cellist Vyvienne Long. Occasionally there is an eruption (Rootless Tree) but otherwise 9 is again a modest album. (IV)more
