The originally Scottish singer Eddi Reader will always remain known for that one song (Perfect) that she sang with Fairground Attraction, a tune that still regularly appears in commercials. That was in 1988, after which Reader began a solo career that never yielded her hits again, but the necessary recognition from the connoisseur. Peacetime is the successor to Eddi's fine tribute to the songs of
… Robert Burns from 2003. For Peacetime she drew on the oeuvre of various songwriters, most of whom are virtually unknown to the general public. The emphasis is on narrative folk songs, which are tastefully and with a sense of tradition filled in with guitar, fiddle and accordion. Now and then there is room for a pop song, such as the obscure gem Prisons from The Trash Can Sinatra's. And of course there are some compositions by Robert Burns, because Eddi Reader is apparently (and luckily) far from finished with this songwriter. (MS)more
