Dan Stuart and Steve Wynn were representatives of the Paisley Underground movement in the 1980s, fronting Green On Red and Dream Syndicate respectively. Groups that harked back to garage rock and country rock of the sixties and thus stood at the foot of what is nowadays called americana. In 1985 the duo already met under the name Danny & Dusty and they made the album The Lost Weekend. Years
… later, the two Californians met again in New York, resulting in Cast Iron Soul. The duo then effortlessly picks up the thread of The Lost Weekend with a collection of country rock songs; played loosely and stripped of any (youthful) pretense. In the opening song they immediately state that all the nagging about good old times should be over and that they are having a great time now. The twelve subsequent songs underline this, with which Cast Iron Soul has become above all a pleasant album on which two voices cut through life in sketchy colored songs celebrate the present day. This special edition of Cast Iron Soul contains an extra DVD with a live concert, recorded at The Music Machine in Los Angeles. (MR) recorded at The Music Machine in Los Angeles.
