After the production of the soundtrack to the 1929 Russian film Man With A Movie Camera, Jason Swincoe, founder of The Cinematic Orchestra, decided to move further into cinematographic spheres. This time, however, with limited view, because no film images have been shot for Swincoe's compositions. … the listener's imagination in order to make up his own film with the music. That probably won't be the images of the average blockbuster. No chases, explosions or shootings, but subdued, sensitive mood moments associated with art-house films. The main roles lie with the strings and arpeggio guitar parts. The Cinematic Orchestra has more in common with Michael Nyman's music, permanent composer by director Peter Greenaway, then with the experimental beats of the other Ninja Tune acts. Ma Fleur is yet another impressive performance by Jason Swincoe. (AD)more
