The obscure electronics producer Dntel (Jimmy Tamborello) became unexpectedly successful in 2003 with the side project The Postal Service, in which Dntel beats were provided with text and melody by Ben Gibbard of the indie band Death Cab For Cutie. The unpretentious collaboration became one of the best-selling and most loved electronics records for years. Four years after Give Up, the world is still
… waiting for the second Postal Service album. With the solo album Dumb Luck Dntel breaks the silence. Ben Gibbard is nowhere to be seen, but there are guest appearances from Mia Doi Todd, Lali Puna, Grizzly Bear, Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) and Jenny Lewis (Rilo Kiley), who could also be heard on Give Up . Dntel happily experiments in ten restless, titillating tracks, in which the (indeed present) pop structures are lovingly disrupted by glitches, white noise, rock guitars and delay. (MS)more
