… follow-up No Promises is a fully English CD, but the atmosphere is largely the same as on the predecessor: above all very relaxed. For the songs on No Promises, lyrics by William B. Yeats, Emily Dickinson, WH Auden and Dorothy Parker, among others, were set to music. The booklet not only contains the texts, but also a short biography of the various authors. Although the idea behind No Promises seems somewhat pretentious, you don't notice much of it when you listen. The pleasantly rippling songs radiate the same carefreeness as, for example, the work of JJ Cale. This deluxe version of No Promises has an extra CD single with a duet with Lou Reed on it, and a booklet with the poems set to music by Bruni. (IV)more
