Not many people know his name, but Mike Batt is the man behind some of the most successful songs of all time. He wrote and produced Bright Eyes for the film Watership Down, which was a huge hit for Art Garfunkel in England and the Netherlands in 1979. That same year he scored a major solo hit in our country with Lady Of The Dawn. As a producer he was active for Steeley Span, Elkie Brooks and Barbara
… Dickson, among others. Today he is best known as the discoverer and accompanist of Katie Melua, for whom he also wrote and produced. A Songwriter's Tale presents an anthology from his oeuvre, in which he plays the piano himself and takes care of the vocals. Batt has a somewhat thin voice and the appeal must therefore come from the melodic power of his songs. And that is, but we already knew that, perfectly fine. (MS)more
