The LPG group from the Groningen village of Hoogezand-Sappemeer made its debut in 2005 at Excelsior Recordings with I Fear No Foe. To this they mix indie pop with art rock and lo-fi in a contrary way, with the inventive and pure harmony vocals as their strongest weapon that bring calm and recognisability to their hectic sound. The song Belly Rollercoaster, for example, did very well in an advertisement
… for mobile phones. Music perfectly suited by Excelsior's house producer Frans Hagenaars, who also provided this successor with a compact and slightly gritty, typical indie sound. On With The Earth Above Me, LPG has only grown and sound more confident. It is great how the songs initially look like rapsodies of styles, but how there is always something recognizable, a choir or a singing melody that keeps running through them. This makes LPG an accessible band for every lover of indie music. (MR)more
