There is a cozy eatery in Valkenburg called Bonne Aparte, but it is undoubtedly a coincidence that this fierce music company from Friesland listens to the same name. There is not much fun about this six-piece band and they don't make restaurant music at all. Things get intense and hectic on their debut album, in eleven songs of around two minutes. In barely twenty minutes, Bonne Aparte thus presents
… itself as an avant-garde hardcore band, somewhere between Teenage Jesus & The Jerks and Shellac. Their concise musical storms sometimes make a well-considered impression and, partly due to the somewhat flat vocals, they lack pure unbridled anger here and there. With the absurdist cover (which contains little information) and a transverse attitude, Bonne Aparte (the name remains faint) once again shakes up the predominantly preserved Dutch music scene. This makes them most reminiscent of their sullen fellow provincial Lul, from the early nineties. (MR)more
