Child soldiers also grow up. But how can such a person properly deal with the dramatic events of their childhood? Often they will have to find a way for themselves to accommodate those experiences. Emmanuel Jal is an example of a child soldier who has found a way to give a positive twist to his painful experiences and he does so through hip-hop music. Emmanuel uses very sharp observations that he tries to convey as clearly as possible, accompanied by bass, guitar, (African) drums and percussion. Content-wise, and fortunately also production-wise, this is an album that stands out. (GL)more
