Singer and percussionist Victoria Yeulet and guitarist Benjamin Prosser together form the nostalgic-looking British duo Congregation. On their debut album they give their own view on the American delta blues in the pre-war traditions of Son House and Robert Johnson. Their sound is elementary and spooky, which also fits well with more alternative acts like The Kills and the legendary The Gun Club.
At the same time, the duo misses the madness and filth of these names. Prosser's licks are right and inventive at the same time and Yeulet naturally seems to have a rough '78 rpm crack 'in her voice, while she indicates a primary four-quarter rhythm with a slave bell around her ankle.
