Inspiration Information is a sympathetic initiative of the fine label Strut. Young artists are allowed to record an album with a veteran of their choice. For example, the London dancehall DJ Ashley Beedle composed for his idol Horace Andy. Reggae legend Andy has already made an impressive comeback. In 1998 he sang Massive Attacks album Mezzanine to impressive heights. His clear voice is as smooth
… as it was ten years ago. As with Massive Attack, Beedle's productions are heavily influenced by dub, dancehall and funk. The songs were written and recorded in four days. That is why not all songs are equally strong, but they do radiate the cheerful atmosphere of a relaxed collaboration. Andy's voice gives this slightly unbalanced album its own face. A striking outsider is the Stones cover Angie, which was decorated with violins, castanets and, of course, a reggae beat. (PdK)more
