Singer and guitarist Oliver Ackerman is a designer of guitar effect pedals and with his company Death By Audio he can count bands like U2 and Nine Inch Nails among his customers. In his spare time he hits the pedals himself, in his band A Place To Bury Strangers. This New York trio is considered the loudest playing band in the Big Apple. Ackerman's pedals play a more than important role, especially
… in the distortion and reverb sections. Also on their second album he builds a wall from this again. He floods a collection of songs that are basically very traditional and far from original. At A Place To Bury Strangers it is permanent in 1984, where The Jesus and Mary Chain collide with The Comsat Angels. That all sounds pretty clever and even catchy, but Exploding Head adds nothing to the originals and is mainly a study of a period of which even the revival is already behind us. (MR)more
