The lamented Serge Gainsbourg has many famous admirers. Perhaps that is why his daughter Charlotte knows how to get the best songwriters for her albums with ease. For IRM, the singer worked with Beck. That's not the first artist you think of when you listen to this album. The album is pleasantly eclectic, but unfortunately also a bit hit and miss. A highlight is La Chat De Café, which leaves a
… threatening impression with its minor chords and thin synthesizer. Gainsbourg's lovely vocals contrast well in this song. Other songs, such as Me And Jane Doe and Trick, unfortunately pass by unobtrusively, with the electronic Greenwich Mean Time as the low point. This sounds more like a rough sketch than a full song. Technically Charlotte Gainsbourg is a limited singer, but she knows how to create an atmosphere with which she gets under your skin. IRM is a strange picture, not always accessible. That seems like a good reason to set it up again. (PdK)more
