The End Of History, the debut album by Irish singer / songwriter Fionn Regan, was met with critical acclaim in England. This successor might take some getting used to, because it suddenly sounds a lot heavier. Regan throws songs like Protection Racket and Genocide Matinee into the world with a snarling voice. Fionn is a young songwriter with an old soul, big mouth and a good dose of self-confidence.
His backing band swings, rumbles and thumps around. 'I don't want to brush off mistakes. I like a direct and natural sound, ”Regan explains on his own website. To this end, he recorded the album almost live in an abandoned warehouse with second-hand guitars and a piano that had a previous life on a cruise ship. Nice details, but they wouldn't have been worth anything without those songs. And it is precisely with carelessly good songs such as Violent Demeanour and Lines Written In Winter that Fionn Regan distinguishes himself in 2010 from the majority of singer / songwriters. (PdK)more
