Jim Kerr sold 40 million albums worldwide as the singer of The Simple Minds, played in sold-out stadiums and is now even a shareholder at his favorite football club Celtic. Not very strange that Kerr lost herself a bit. It didn't seem to be an identity crisis, but in the booklet accompanying this first solo album he says that he wanted to look for his younger self: the driven boy, who loved music.
Incidentally, Kerr was quick to say that this solo debut certainly did not mean the end of The Simple Minds. Minds drummer Mel Gaynor also just participates on this album, on which Kerr sounds remarkably eager. Kerr's voice keeps the association with Simple Minds of course, but musically he also stays in the pattern of his employer's wave pop and epic rock. But as mentioned, Kerr does that well. He has convincingly brought home his personal 'lost boy'. (PdK)more
