Initially, Darre van Dijk alias Darius Dante wanted to make a living as a rapper. Unfortunately this did not work. The hip-hop outfit was exchanged for a tight suit and Dante started to earn a living as a fast advertising boy. In this industry he was able to express his love for music again as a composer of music for commercials. Some of his songs even made it to the top 40. This gave him enough
… confidence to return to a musical career. His debut Keep Ya Hands Up has become a very varied album on which his love for soul and funk soon becomes apparent. With the festive opener Give It To Me, Dante makes it clear that he really just wants to sing. For Keep Ya Hands Up he wrote a text on Also Sprach Zarathustra in the performance of Brazilian keyboardist Eumir Deodato. The rest of the CD is full of songs that show that Dante is very inspired by Jamiroquai. (AD)more
