Many Chinese restaurants have an aquarium, because the owners believe that the water bowl brings prosperity. The water and fish in an aquarium never stand still and that is the metaphor for life itself. The men of the American Aquarium are also busy. At least, that's how their debut album Small Town Hymns sounds. The songs seem to have been written by men with restless souls. Men who play night
… after night in anonymous towns, and after the show leave for another town without a name. Small Town Hymns is an ode to the many places in the deep south of the United States. American Aquarium's sound is drenched in southern rock, americana, country and singer / songwriters with a languid southern accent. Small Town Hymns is not a topper in the genre, but the album is remarkably nice to listen to. A great picture, for anyone who regularly has to hit the road. (PdK)more
