The television audience may know The Souldiers from De Wereld Draait Door, where the group played soul covers as a house band. The radio audience may know the group from the Serious Talent Award that the six people won. It is therefore not surprising that a number of experienced forces are now watching over the group. For example, producer JB Meijers (De Dijk) recorded this debut album in the Ardent
… Studios in Memphis. These are the studios where legendary Stax albums by Sam & Dave and The Staples Singers were recorded. Forget those names, because The Souldiers sound much better and yes, more Dutch. The radio-friendly songs, including Dutch accent, hop into your ears, but none of the songs really stick. The band members are ambitious, look good and the contacts with radio and TV are good. These are reasons enough for (domestic) success. With the music, with a little more life experience, it will probably be fine on the next album. (PdK)more
