Despite the fact that the brothers Cody and Luther Dickinson are nearly forty, they remain young dogs who still play just as passionately as on their first album from 2000. With their new record Keys To The Kingdom, the brothers pay tribute to their father who died in 2009. and legendary musician Jim Dickinson. And they do that well, very well. From start to finish you keep jumping on the blues
… gospel country rock 'n' roll of the Dickinson brothers. 'White boys' from head to toe, but still the real Mississippi work. It was brought up to the boys. It is striking that Keys To The Kingdom is the first album by The North Mississippi Allstars on which the band works as a trio. There are also a number of interesting guests on this album. Soul singer Mavis Staples takes part in the gospel song The Meeting and Alvin Youngblood Hart blows along on his blues harp on various songs. All songs were written by the brothers except for the Dylan cover Stuck Inside Of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again. Highlights are the swinging New Orleans Walkin 'Dead and the breathtaking song Ain't No Grave, where Ry Cooder beautifully plays slide guitar. (SI)more
