The front cover of Simon Stein's debut looks like a poster for an exciting boy's movie. As one of the boys from De Kameleon, Stein stands by the coast with a setting sun behind him. The beginning of an adventure? A little though. The Volendam singer and songwriter is on the eve of a career that could just be successful. His debut album contains sixteen songs of which at least three can be regarded
… as potential hits. And should the success come, the Volendammer has already 'remained nice and normal' in advance. As it says on his Twitter: 'By the way, I just read that I am 23rd in the album top 40! With Various Artists Hollandse Hits 2011, with 36 others !! Beer ?? ' A lovely Dutch boy, isn't it? The only thing that pinches a bit is that Stein sounds exactly the same in terms of arrangements as his fellow townspeople, the 3JS and in terms of voice as Jan Smit. Where the almost simultaneously released debut of the Volendam rockers Blue Velvet does away with comparisons, Stein offers us no choice. His record, for example, is a bit of an exciting boy's film of which you already knew the ending. (JE)more
