Most Polish folk groups sing in their own language, but Vladimirska is an outsider: they opt for English. Not surprising when you realize that singer Scotia Gilroy is from Canada. She has a nice, drawling voice and is nimble on the accordion. The only downside is that Gilroy has a tendency to stuff too many words into a sentence, which sometimes makes her sound too rushed. That is one of the few
… criticisms because Vladimirska plays a mixture of folk, klezmer, polka and gypsy music. Then don't think of boisterous Balkan beats. The acoustic Vladimirska takes things a lot more subtly. Live, the group is bound to hold its own, because the list of performances is impressive. The group does not only play a lot in Poland, but the Germans are also slowly changing. Just wait to see if the east wind will also bring the group to the Netherlands. Vladimirska is certainly one of the most original groups in Eastern Europe. (PdK)more
