The alcohol ban in the United States during the 1920s had an unexpected effect. People turned en masse to the 'moonshine', drink that was made illegally at home. Sometimes with excellent results, but some drinks were so bad that consumption even led to blindness. So Moonshine, the Rotterdam americas group Half Way Station decided to name their debut album after the hot stuff. And indeed, their music
… is just as American as moonshine, but does their brew taste like a fine drink or a bend of the impure water? In any case, the moonshine from Half Way Station is firm on the stomach. Just listen to the spooky title track or the beautiful instrumental Junction # 3. The America of Half Way Station is colored with moody shades of gray. Maybe not so happy but this is excellent music to open a bottle of the best home-fired stuff. (PdK)more
