Sinéad O'Connor is often portrayed as a troublemaker, but her fierce protest against child abuse within the Catholic Church is not only sincere but also desperately needed. It takes courage to speak out as an artist at a time when artists with a little too much commitment are often considered suspicious. Even at the age of 44, Sinéad has plenty of issues on which to express her heart, both of a
… personal and social nature. Fortunately, she does this in a way that never sounds too bad. How About I Be Me shows above all that she is still blessed with that unique, crystal clear voice. This CD, her tenth, again offers all kinds of flavors: from the cheerful folkie opener 4th And Vine to the religiously tinted Take Off Your Shoes and the compact pop song Old Lady with, again, a golden honest text. O'Connor feels like a fish in water on this album. On the basis of her regular producer John Reynolds, she proves that, despite all the gossip, she is above all an excellent singer / songwriter.
