'Red is a color with an undeniable presence, an irresistible charisma'. This piece of text can be found in the CD booklet of RED (Realizing Every Dream), already the fifth album by r & b artist Ne-Yo. Funny that he talks about irresistible charisma, because his previous record Libra Scale (2010) was very easy to resist. He has found a new home at Motown Records and let's hope his charisma becomes
… the same again. The record starts with an attempt at self-criticism and Ne-Yo shows itself from an adult side. With Sia Furler he wrote the club track Let Me Love You and scored an old-fashioned hit again. Even though vocally it sometimes resembles Usher too much, it soon becomes clear that the CD is a lot easier to digest than its predecessor. The danceable club tracks and swoon ballads are not entirely free of clichés, but the 30-year-old is on the right track. One more awesome hit and his charisma is back to normal. (GL)more
