Dark Dark Dark from Minneapolis is a special company. It has links with visual art and contributed to an exhibition of the Dutch Van Abbe Museum, among other things. However, if the quintet ranks around the piano of singer, pianist and songwriter Nona Marie Invie, they sound like a puritan American orchestra. Important influences come from European folk music, Americana and especially tin pan alley
… music, performed with acoustic instruments such as banjo, trumpet and accordion. Who Needs Who is a big step forward compared to its predecessor Wild Go (2011). Where Invie previously shared lead vocals with banjonist Marshal Lacount, this time the main role is entirely reserved for her warm and emotional voice. In addition, people now also dare to break through the traditional sounds more with, for example, the Gothic darkness permeated Hear Me. On Who Needs Who Dark Dark Dark therefore sounds more versatile than ever. (MR)more
