13 is Havoc's third solo album, half of hip-hop duo Mobb Deep. He's better known for his productions than for his raps, but in an age of spoiled brats, it's refreshing to hear some raw from a veteran like Havoc. What is immediately noticeable about 13 is the absence of his partner in crime, Prodigy. This may be because the latter was once again in jail, but an even more likely cause is the brief
… 'beef' between the gentlemen, in which Havoc attacked his colleague on Twitter. In the meantime Mobb Deep is a unit again, but lyric nerds will have to miss Prodigy's presence on this album. The use of dark loops creates an atmosphere that hip-hop CDs of today hardly have. The contributions of Royce Da 5'9 ”, Styles P and Raekwon provide further rap technical entertainment. The whole makes 13 a very welcome product. (GL)more
