The more than eighty springs that Yoko Ono saw come and go have barely gotten a hold of her. She runs from art exposition to performance and is quite productive so. Her energy is matched only by her versatility. As a musician, she is known for her stimulating new wave - Kiss Kiss Kiss from 1980, for example - and her unfathomable avant-garde. The latter in particular has given her many enemies over
… the years, but also friends like Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and Lady Gaga. Since she took the name Plastic Ono Band from the mothballs in 2009, she has welcomed many musician friends. Her fifteenth solo album Take Me To The Land Of Hell features contributions from Lenny Kravitz, Nels Cline (Wilco's master guitarist) and tUnE-yArDs. However, driving forces are producers Yuko Honda (Cibo Matto) and son Sean Lennon, who have already made many beautiful records for his label Chimera. With its mishmash of genres (stoner rock, electro, smartlap, vaudeville) Take Me To The Land Of Hell is another fine piece of work. A powerful statement that provides a nice summary of the diffuse world of Yoko Ono. (JE)more
