'All I Gotta Do Is Expand My Territory', it says in cow letters on the back of Tim Knol's new CD. The Dutch singer / songwriter, who kicked off his career in 2010, had to do something new on his third full-length. After two well-received albums, musical partner Matthijs van Duijvenbode thought it was time for a new challenge and he left Knols band. Most of the other band members also left in the
… wake. Only guitarist Anne Soldaat (Daryll-Ann) remained loyal to the young twenties. A new band was quickly formed and with that a new spring dawned for Tim Knol. Soldier On is the first sign of life since he took a new direction. Although the majority of the songs are still written with Van Duijvenbode, Soldier On really sounds different from the previous CDs. For example, the songs are a lot spicier and more diverse. The whole hangs much less against the americana and is therefore more accessible. Tim Knol has successfully broadened his horizon. (JE)more
