Almost four decades after its formation in 1976, Black Flag is known as one of the most illustrious groups in American punk history. Twenty years after the split, it is apparently high time to convert that cult reputation into cash. For example, in 2013 two bands are active with ex-members of Black Flag. FLAG is touring with Keith Morris, once the group's first vocalist, while this Black Flag has
… its second vocalist, Ron Reyes, in its ranks. Funny detail: Henry Rollins, the third and most famous singer, keeps a distance from all reunion troubles. What makes the case for this incarnation of Black Flag is that Greg Ginn is on board. Guitarist Ginn is the only Black Flag member to play in all different lineups. His haunted guitar lines set the tone on this album, which starts strongly with the furious My Heart's Pumping. Unfortunately, the group then reverts to punk clichés a little too often, mainly because of the clumsy lyrics of Reyes. What The .. sounds like a rush job and is unfortunately not the dream comeback album of this legendary punk group. (PdK)more
