What do you get when you put the sounds of Modeselektor and Apparat in the blender? The answer to this question is Moderat, the partnership of these German electrical projects. And what should the three producers call their second album? Moderat II of course! It couldn't be less imaginative, but luckily the music presented is a lot more creative. The Germans switch effortlessly between instrumental
… passages and vocal house and use both very dry and sickly electronic sounds for this. On some songs you can hustle and others force you to listen quietly. That is nice and varied, although there is also little line in the album. Hardly any choices are made on Moderat II, just as the project name and album title don't seem to be the result of a passionate discussion round. There is room for everything: the hard basses of Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary (Modeselektor) and the more accessible sounds of Sascha Ring (Apparat). However, Moderat does not just muddle around, because the colorful music also clearly shows that the three experienced gentlemen know what they are doing. (JE)more
