'Produced by David Lynch' is clearly printed on the cover of this debut by the American artist Chrysta Bell. Lovers of Lynch's films will gradually grow tired of his increasing forays into pop music, with no new film in sight. What is striking is the distinctive and recognizable sound that he creates here with Bell: the transparent, supercooled and reverberated white soul that is so characteristic
… as the musical support for his alienating feature films. The graceful Bell also comes straight out of Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive in appearance. She has an emotional alto voice but, like a real diva, always remains unapproachable and distant. The hints to old rock and roll (with dragging swiping rhythms) and glam belong to the world of Lynch and are discussed on the tasteful This Train. (MR)more
