Frou Frou Rokko, the second album by the German Woima Collective, literally picks up where their debut Tezeta left off. To get in the mood, band leader Johannes Schleiermacher made a three-month journey through Africa. In Morocco, Mali and Senegal he discovered many new rhythms for him, which he gratefully used for the Woima sound. As a musician with an enormous interest in African music, he was
… received with open arms everywhere, which resulted in long sessions in which rhythms from both continents were exchanged. It goes without saying that Schleiermacher came back with a sea of inspiration that can be heard on Frou Frou Rokko. Strangely enough, this CD is very much like Ethiopian music, although he has not visited that country. Lots of mesmerizing rhythms, of course supported by infectious grooves, because danceability is rarely forgotten in Africa. (AD)more
