New Adventures was an exponent of the wave of new wave and rock groups that gained success in the late 1970s in the wake of Herman Brood. Between names like Phoney and the Hardcore, White Honey, Vitesse and The Meteors, this trio from Winschoten was the most bluesy, with a leading role for the raw throat and the pointed guitar playing of Peter Bootsman. Hits were scored with the club song New
… Adventures and the Chuck Berry cover Come On. After the failed power pop album Radiator, the group disbanded in 1986. Since then, Bootsman and bassist Harry de Winter have regularly returned with varying drummers as New Adventures, such as on Station Zero, their first album since 1998. The group has continued to deal in energetic pub rock with bluesy straightforward songs, a sound that is hardly a birthday. The power trio sounds tighter and fatter than ever on Station Zero. However, the record is not there to recruit new fans. Who that once was or still is will benefit from it. (MR)more
