Got A Girl consists of producer Dan The Automator and singer Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Dan The Automator became known with productions for hip-hop artists, projects such as Deltron 3030, Lovage and Handsome Boy Modeling School, but especially for his contribution to the first Gorillaz album (2001). Winstead is primarily an actress, having appeared in two Die Hard films and the cult hit Scott Pilgrim
… Vs. The World. They worked together for the first time on that film, and apparently it went so well that a full album has now been released, with the special title I Love You But I Must Drive Off This Cliff Now. That has turned out to be a nice relaxed record, in which sweet sixties pop, some hip-hop, lounge, synthpop and orchestral film music come together, and all topped with a considerable retro sauce. To make you happy, with the only side note that Got A Girl sometimes almost seems like a copy of another producer-singer-duo, namely The Bird And The Bee. Highly recommended for fans of that group, but also fans of Caro Emerald would appreciate this. (IV)more
