The Los Angeles based Jungle Fire consists of a selection of session musicians who have earned their spurs as accompanists for the most diverse acts, all of whom have one thing in common: a cool groove. Inspired by Ray Barretto, James Brown, Fela Kuti and Manu Dibango, they play a blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms, breakbeats and seventies funk. Originally Jungle Fire started as a one-off project, but
… soon the group became a regular guest at local clubs and parties. And that's a good thing, because compared to groups with the same approach, such as Budos Band, The Souljazz Orchestra, and our own Jungle By Night, Jungle Fire focuses more on danceable rhythms than on complicated melodies. And that is what a party is all about. The great strength of the band lies in the perfect combination of Fela Kuti's Nigerian jujur rhythms with tight Latin percussion and breakbeat. These three rhythms reinforce each other in such a way that sitting still is impossible. (AD)more
