It's always nice news when Excelsior Recordings, the nicest indie label in the Netherlands, has managed to sign a nice new band again. And nice are the Afterpartees, even called the best guitar band of 2014 by website 3voor12. Afterpartees are five young friends from Horst, discovered by the Groningen record seller and punk and garage rock fanatic Jan Kooi who financed their first single. With the
… energetic and lanky charm of the young The Undertones, Afterteens then conquered the Dutch stages, completed with a successful performance at Noorderslag in January 2015. Around the same time, Glitter Lizard appeared. It clearly shows why these five Limburgers are so popular. Their melodic punk pop splashes out of the speakers, unpretentious but effective. By using two guitars, the cutting songs always retain melody over which the easily understandable singer Niek Nellen can scream, snarl and sneer. Punk songs about girls, drinking, that awful song Wonderwall from Oasis and Red Bull. Nothing new, but that doesn't make their debut any less charming and fun. (MR)more
