Britain's The Fall never actually made bad albums, during a whimsical but solid existence that dates back to the early punk days of 1976. Self-proclaimed dictator and sole original member Mark E. Smith always had plenty to say, apart from some alcoholic dips. This is evident from the fact that everyone chooses their own favorite album from the voluminous oeuvre of the band: Grotesque (1980), I Am
… Kurios Oranj (1988) or even a late album like Reformation Post TLC (2007). The thirty-first album Sub-Lingual Tablet is going well again - Smith but also his band with of course girlfriend Eleni Poulou (keys) and two drummers. Just like contemporaries Pere Ubu, Smith seems to want to experiment again in eleven wild songs / soundscapes in which rock and roll, krautrock and punk, but above all a lot of authentic The Fall sound. A new favorite emerges with Sub-Lingual Tablet. (MR)more
