The great thing about a Simply Red reunion is that it takes off quite easily. Mick Hucknall only has to agree with himself that he will release his new record under that name and the reunion is a fact. Hucknall did, of course, gather a variety of musicians around him, who perfectly polish the characteristic Simply Red sound. With success, because Simply Red is still doing very well in the Netherlands
… in 2015, with two shows in the Ziggo Dome. Simply Red fans will not be disappointed by Big Love. The title track is an old-fashioned soul grinder while Hucknall hangs the disco ball from the ceiling for Daydreaming. Also beautiful is the orchestral pop in Dad. The song is a tribute from Hucknall to his late father who raised him alone. The best news on Big Love is that Hucknall's soul voice still sounds as smooth as it did in the eighties. (PdK)more
